What is e-Therapy? Is On-line Coaching an Option?
If you are suicidal, please go offline and call your telephone operator for referral to the closest mental health facility. It may be 911 if your town supports it, or it may be a hospital emergency room. Some cities have a response team. Please call for help.
If you are in crisis, please contact your mental health association for referral. Your city may have a hotline for immediate referrals. Please check with your telephone operator.
E-Therapy or e-mail therapy is creating an online relationship with another who has your highest good in mind. Healing, change, support or coaching may be your goals.
E-therapy shares some benefits of face to face therapy, yet it is important to realize that the nonverbal cues of facial expression and body posture is missing. Nevertheless, a warm relationship is possible.
Some distressing conditions are not suitable for an online relationship. Face to face therapy is mandatory. These conditions may include sexual abuse, schizophrenia, major depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, domestic violence, and more.
In e-therapy, I only work with Missouri residents. My coaching practice can cross state lines. My online practice includes one to two e-mails per week at the cost of $45.00 per e-mail. An initial e-mail telling me what you want to work on and what your goals are will help me guide you in the proper direction. I am interested in why at this time you decided to reach out. This first contact is at no cost to you because together we will decide if e-therapy or e-coaching is a suitable direction for you. Once we decide to work together, I will receive and reply to one or two e-mails per week. The turnaround time for an e-mail answer is one to two days. My e-mail address is email@example.com.
I am aware that some people want to be anonymous when they interact online. For your safety, I must know your name, address, and telephone number. I will ask you to mail me verifying information. If my computer goes down, I want to be able to notify you.
Confidentiality is an important part of our interactions and you must be aware that anyone at our ISP's can read the mail. Due to the volume of e-mails sent through an ISP it is not probable. I take precautions at my worksite to insure that confidentiality is maintained. I print out the e-mails, delete them from the computer, and place the printouts in a locked file. It is to your benefit to assure confidentiality at your site. Please do not use a computer at work.
At this time, payment for services may be made by check or
money order and mailed to 7700 Clayton Road, Suite 210, St. Louis, MO
63117. I am looking into PayPal as an online method of payment.
